Sports Massage

Sports massage is a targeted therapy designed for athletes and active individuals, helping to improve performance, prevent injury, and speed up recovery. At Lomax Physio, our therapists use a range of techniques to reduce muscle tension, improve flexibility, and enhance overall movement whether you’re preparing for an event, recovering from training, or managing general soreness.

If you are having a massage without our Sports Therapist Abby, you can also add cupping therapy to your session to further support recovery. Using gentle suction, cups lift the skin and underlying tissues to boost circulation and encourage fluid movement. This can help ease tightness, reduce discomfort, and promote healing without the need for deep pressure. Cupping is especially effective on larger muscle groups such as the back, shoulders, and thighs, making it a valuable addition to your treatment.

Shockwave Therapy

We are proud to be able to offer Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) to our patients at Lomax Physio.

Shockwave Therapy was initially introduced to medically treat conditions like kidney stones over 20 years ago. Since then it has been adapted to treat many musculoskeletal conditions with huge success. It is an innovative and evidence-based treatment for conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis, Osteoarthritis and tendon pain such as Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, golfers elbow and many more.

The main benefits of ESWT are pain relief and function restoration. Shockwave therapy is not only safe, but non-invasive. A specialist handheld device produces acoustic energy and delivers it through the skin to the injury site. This sound wave desensitises nerve endings which results in a reduction in pain. Crucially, shockwaves cause controlled micro-trauma to the targeted tissues which encourages the body’s inflammatory response and therefore promotes blood flow and metabolism in the area. This, in turn, will accelerate the bodies own natural healing process and aid with quicker recovery.

There is a significant and growing body of evidence that supports the use of Shockwave Therapy in treatment for many common conditions. It is supported by the  National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), providing national guidance to improve healthcare in both the NHS and private practice. They have produced some specific guidelines for some common conditions as follows: Achilles Tendinopathy , calcific tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis .

Acupuncture

We utilise acupuncture as an integral component of our specialised musculoskeletal treatment approach. Derived from traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture involves the precise insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of Qi, restoring balance within body. Our skilled acupuncturists personalise each session to meet individual needs, whether it’s managing chronic musculoskeletal pain, addressing headaches, or alleviating anxiety and stress. With a holistic approach, we strive to empower our patients on their journey to optimal musculoskeletal health and wellness through the gentle yet potent practice of acupuncture.
